N2 - The goal of energy transition in China is to develop a new generation of low-carbon, high-efficiency energy systems. The new generation energy systems will face new risks, and it is necessary to conduct research to quantify the risks, identify weak links, increase the ability of the system to resist risks, and ensure success of energy transition. Firstly, this paper defines concepts of the new generation energy system from national, regional, urban, park and user level according to geographical span, illustrates the meaning and significance of its risk assessment, and explains necessity of risk assessment. Secondly, according to classification of different energy subsystems such as electricity, heat, gas, electricity-gas, and electricity-heat-gas, the research status of risk assessment of the new generation energy system is summarized. Then the key science problems in the risk assessment research of the new generation energy system are extracted. Finally, future research direction is looked forward.
