Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common disease characterized by continuous airflow limitation. Studies have found that the occurrence and development of COPD are closely related to ferroptosis. Ferroptosis is an iron⁃dependent regulated cell death form, mainly manifested by excessive oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation. Based on previous research, this paper summarizes some manifestations of ferroptosis in COPD and explains how iron⁃containing particles in cigarette smoke deposit in the lung and cause iron dysregulation, which promotes the occurrence and development of COPD via various mechanisms such as oxidative stress, inflammatory response, ferritinophagy, mitochondrial dysfunction, and protease antiprotease imbalance. Further, we discussed potential intervention measures for ferroptosis in the treatment of COPD, so as to provide a reference for further research and clinical treatment of COPD.
