Abstract
Flow control and combustion control using plasma actuation are research frontiers in the crossroads between aerospace technology and plasma technology. They have broad application potential in increasing lift, decreasing drag, expanding engine stability, improving efficiency, and broadening boundaries. In this paper, we summarize the progress of our research group. Focusing on the problems of characterization and optimization of plasma actuation, we established a multi-physics coupled simulation model and optimization method. To improve plasma flow control capabilities, we proposed the plasma shock flow control theory and developed plasma shock actuation methods for subsonic and supersonic flow control. For the requirements of lift increase, drag reduction, and boundary expansion in aircrafts, we developed plasma flow control and anti-icing methods for high-lift wings and flying wings. To satisfy the demands of engine stabilization and efficiency improvement, we developed flow plasma excitation control methods for compressor leakage flow and separation flow, and inlet flow separation flow. To extend the ignition and combustion boundary of engines, we developed a multi-channel plasma ignition method and a gliding arc plasma ignition combustion method. Lastly, we present an outlook on the development of flow and combustion control technology.
