Abstract
With increasingly larger penetration of renewable energy generations, the functions of spot markets in different time scales gradually changes. Intraday market is proven critical in accommodating renewable energy sources. And the need to refine the design of intraday market increases. Cross-provincial market, as one of spatial dimensions, faces its typical challenges in design. Firstly, from the aspects of market space, transaction demand, function location and design complexity, the changing characteristics of intraday market are discussed in this paper. And the challenges of cross-provincial intraday market design are analyzed. Provincial market coupling, regional market fusion, transmission capacity management and renewable energy accommodation are considered. Finally, several suggestions on cross-provincial intraday market design are proposed, including priority-based provincial market coupling, principle-based regional market fusion, flow-based transmission management and rolling-based mechanism.
