Abstract
To explore the different effects produced by different sliding modes on the tribological properties of MoS2 nano-lubricant, tribological tests were carried out under unidrectional and reciprocating sliding modes with different lubricating oil samples containing surface-modified MoS2 nanosheets. Lubricating oil samples were prepared by dispersing silane coupling agent (KH570) modified MoS2 nanosheets into liquid paraffin oil through ultrasonic treatment, then anti-friction and anti-wear properties of lubricating oil samples with different concentrations of KH-MoS2 nanosheets were tested by ball-on-disk friction and wear tester under unidirectional and reciprocating sliding modes respectively. The influence of sliding mode on the tribological properties of lubricating oil with MoS2 nanosheets was investigated by comparing and analyzing the wear scar of steel ball and the surface of dual discs. According to the friction test results, the lubrication models of unidirectional and reciprocating sliding modes were established, and the anti-friction and anti-wear mechanism of lubricating oil containing KH-MoS2 nanosheets under unidirectional and reciprocating sliding modes were investigated. The results show that the friction coefficient (COF) of lubrication oils nanoparticles decreases with the increasing concentration of KH-MoS2 nanosheets in lubricating oil under unidirectional and reciprocating sliding modes. The lowest COF of 0.075 can be obtained when the added mass fraction of KH-MoS2 nanosheets in paraffin oil reaches 1% under reciprocating sliding mode, which is much lower than that under unidirectional sliding mode. The COF gets 53.4% lower than that lubricated by pure paraffin oil under reciprocating sliding mode and 25% lower than that of unidirectional sliding mode lubricated by the same lubricating oil sample.
