N2 - To support the efficient utilization of renewable energy and ensure power supply, grid-forming technologies have been initially explored and practiced in various application scenarios within power systems. To promote the large-scale application of grid-forming technologies, their functional positioning and application perspectives in new power systems are discussed. By sorting out the evolution history of grid-forming technologies and existing domestic and foreign standards and specifications, the internal driving demands for developing grid-forming technologies are analyzed, and their functional positioning in different power grid scenarios is clarified. Finally, from the dimensions of static, dynamic, and transient stability analysis, the current challenges faced by grid-forming technologies are analyzed, and the issues that need to be addressed for their large-scale application are prospected.
