Abstract

To decrease the damages brought by auto-ignition, the auto-ignition behaviors and thermal safety of typical composite modified base propellant need to be studied. A rapid compression machine combined with high-speed imaging and dynamic pressure acquisition technology was used to develop and verify rapid thermal stimuli method, conduct auto-ignition experiment of composite modified double basc(CMDB) propellant under rapid thermal loading environment (heating rate greater than 101 K/s), and obtain the typical auto-ignition behavior of cyclotrimeth-ylene trinitroamine (RDX) modified double-base propellant, and the ignition critical conditions of cyclotetramethylene tetranitraminc (HMX) and 1, l-diamino-2, 2-dinitroethylene (FOX-7) modified double-base propellants. The results show that the CMDB containing HMX cannot be ignited at 1. 0 MPa and 901. 2 K. However, ignition phenomenon occurs when the pressure increases to 3. 0 MPa. The critical ignition temperature of the CMDB containing HMX and FOX-7 decreases as the pressure increases. The critical ignition temperature of CMDB containing FOX-7 is lower than that of CMDB containing HMX under the same pressure.
