Abstract

To solve the problem of insufficient heat dissipation efficiency of traditional air-cooling system, this paper combined the spray evaporation process with forced air cooling by experimental method, which strengthened the heat dissipation efficiency of battery thermal management system. A battery pack cooling system based on heat pipe array/spray cooling composite structure was established. The heat dissipation performance of different cooling approaches was compared. Then, the effects of inlet wind speed, spray frequency and spray duty cycle ratio on cooling performance of the system were studied. The results show that the composite structure for temperature control can not only completely restrain the temperature rise of the battery pack under 1C discharge rate, but also maintain the average temperature of the battery pack at about 41 C under 3C discharge rate; the opening time of spray every 10 s during the spray working cycle reduces 2 C temperature reduction for the whole battery pack. The increase of the spray frequency can reduce the temperature fluctuation of the battery.
