Abstract
The transmission capability of the inter-area section is mainly limited by the thermal stability limit of heavy load channels, and the key transmission section is of great significance for the safe and stable operation of power grid. This paper proposes a control method of unified power flow controller (UPFC) to solve the problems of limited transmission capability and uneven power flow distribution. An index of section load balance degree is defined, which provides quantitative index for evaluating the power flow control effect of UPFC and the optimization function of UPFC to the sectional power flow distribution. Taking the 500 kV UPFC science and technology demonstration project in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province as an example, this paper proposes control methods of UPFC in three cases (three-phase permanent N-1 fault, steady-state operation and Jinping-Suzhou DC blocking fault). The simulation results show that the UPFC control method based on the proposed index can realize improving the transmission capability, sectional power flow distribution and the safety and stability of the power grid.
