Abstract
Water holdup measurement in crude oil-water flows plays an important role in the petroleum industry. When the capacitance probes are used in the practical oil field, the oil would be absorbed on the surface of the probes, which affects the sensitivity of the capacitance probes. In this paper, we analyzed the adsorption characteristics of crude oil and found that the main factors affecting the adsorption of crude oil are temperature and water holdup. The viscosity of crude oil decreases with the temperature, which leads to lower adsorption amount. The influence of water holdup on the absorption increases with the temperature decreases. The experimental results indicate that the adsorption of the crude oil and the probe is physical adsorption. The adsorption process can be described according to the isothermal adsorption model. The relationship between the output signal of the probe after crude oil adsorption and the water content is established, which provides a theoretical basis for the online measurement of the water holdup of crude oil.
