Abstract

Effect of alloy compositions on the microstructure and properties of Al-Mg-Si conductor materials was investigated. The results show that for Al-Mg-Si conductor materials with different Mg and Si contents, the content and size of precipitates are different during aging. When the Mg/Si atom ratio is near 1.5, the precipitation is more complete and obtains the highest precipitate content, and the strength and electrical properties of the alloy are more outstanding. For the conductor materials with different Fe content, the needle-like precipitates form rapidly at the early stage of aging in the material with high Fe content. But for the material containing less Fe, the precipitates are rod-shaped and form slowly at the early stage of aging. This leads to a high strength during the aging time and great conductivity in the late stage of aging.
