Abstract
The voltage and frequency are the basic parameters of AC power systems. The benefits of voltage have been greatly exploited in the multi-voltage power systems while those of frequency are still unexplored. In the coming energy revolution, the frequency characteristics of power sources and loads have significantly changed and novel transmission schemes are in great need to integrate clean power generation and support global energy interconnection. The multi-frequency power systems show great potential in accommodating and utilizing the emerging characteristics of power sources, loads and networks. It is also technological feasible thanks to the developing power electronic techniques. As the advanced form of the power electronic based grid, the multi-frequency system provides a systemic framework to manage the challenges caused by extremely high-penetrated renewable power. It will support and promote the revolution in energy production, consumption and cooperation, presenting the future of power grids.
