Abstract
The low processing temperature feature makes cold spray an effective approach to deposit heat-sensitive, oxidation sensitive metallic materials of high quality. Cold spray can be used for coating preparation, repair of the failed metallic parts and high efficiency additive manufacturing. It is known that achieving targeting properties is the promise for practical applications of cold sprayed coatings, repair coatings and additive manufacturing components which are mainly determined by their unique microstructure. Firstly, for the high speed collisions of cold sprayed solid particles, the deposit with 'brick & wall-like' layered microstructure was formed by accmulative packing of solid partivles.Then, the features and properties of the 'brick & wall-like' cold sprayed deposit were expounded, especially the relationship between the mechanical properties. Finally, strategies and methods to tailor the microstructures of cold sprayed metallic deposits were introduced in terms of designing of the initial spraying feedstock powders, controlling of the spraying process and post-spray treatments, which expected to provide references for the widely application of cold spray technology.
