N2 - An adaptability evaluation method of relay protection is proposed. Based on the analysis of the electrical characteristics of the inverter-interfaced system, the adaptability of longitudinal differential protection, protection auxiliary components, and distance protection that commonly equipped in practical engineering in inverter-interfaced systems is evaluated. The effects of converter control strategies, fault scenarios, system topology parameters, and other factors on the adaptability of protection are analyzed, and the adaptation boundary of protection is given. Aiming at the protection which has adaptability issue, a performance optimization scheme is proposed. The correctness of the adaptability analysis and the effectiveness of the optimization scheme are verified by PSCAD/EMTDC simulation. The obtained conclusions can provide a theoretical guidance for the configuration of relay protection in China’s new power system.
