Research interests

Professor Zuohua Huang received his BSc, MSc and Ph. D from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1984, 1987 and 1994. He was visiting scholar at Gifu university, Japan (1989-1991), and research fellow at Tokyo university, Japan (1999-2001). He was Vice-president of Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engines (2005-2016), and vice-director, The Chinese Combustion Section (2005-present), vice-director of State Key laboratory of Multiphase Flow in Power Engineering (2004-2016), vice-director of School of Energy and Power Engineering (2005-2009), the Fellow of the Combustion Institute in 2018, highly cited researchers (Thomson Reuters) in 2015, the Chang Jiang Scholars Professorship in 2004, the Distinguished Young Scholars, National Natural Science Foundation of China in 1999. He received the Outstanding Achievement Award from Chinese Society of Internal Combust Engines in 2010, the GM-China Excellent Achievement Award in 1998, the China National Nature Science Award in 2015.

 

His research fields cover flame propagation, shock wave physics and chemistry, IC engines combustion, spray and atomization, chemical kinetics. His research work contributes to the Combustion Community in three aspects: 1) Enrichment of the understanding of laminar flame of both conventional and alternative fuels through experimental measurements and kinetic study; 2) Advancement of fuel kinetics of using shock tube and rapid compression machine; and 3) Systematic study of natural gas-hydrogen engine, from fundamental study to engine technology advancement, and making it fleet demonstration in China.

 

He has served as the Principal Editor of Fuel from 2016, the Colloquium Co-Chair of 37th and 38th Combustion Symposium on Section “Laminar Flames”, Board member of International Council of Combustion Engines (2006-2016), Board of Directors of the Combustion Institute (2018-2024), Vice-president of Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engines (2005-2017), Vice-director of the Combustion Institute, Chinese Section (2005-2018), Member of Technical Paper Committee, 2013 ASPACC, 2015 ASPACC, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, China National Combustion Meetings in 2008, 2014, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, International Symposium on Multiphase Flow, Heat Transfer and Energy Conversion in 2009.
