Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) began life in 1896 and has since evolved into a world-class institution, included in major programs to enhance higher education in China, such as the Double-first class initiative, the Project 211 and Project 985 programs that preceded it. Today, XJTU encompasses 34 schools, departments, and centers, 9 colleges, and 3 affiliated hospitals, offering 77 undergraduate programs, 45 master's programs, and 45 doctoral programs. The university boasts a vibrant academic community of 62,089 students, comprising 25,595 undergraduates, 32,565 postgraduates, and 3,929 international students from 136 countries. Supporting this academic excellence are 6,754 faculty and staff members, including 3,813 full-time teachers that led by 46 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
XJTU excels in mechanical engineering, energy science and engineering, materials science, computer science, electrical and electronic engineering, business and management studies, as well as artificial intelligence, consistently ranking among top global universities for these disciplines. According to data released by Essential Science Indicators (ESI) in september of this year, 19 disciplines at XJTU ranked in the top 1 percent globally among academic institutions, with six disciplines ranking in the top one-thousandth. Among them, engineering ranked in the top one-ten-thousandth, making it eighth globally. Furthermore, XJTU's 4 disciplines ranked in the top 10, and 14 disciplines in the top 50, in the U.S News and World Report's subject ranking. Notably, XJTU's mechanical engineering is ranked 1st worldwide.
Famous for its strict academic standards, XJTU is the member of China’s Top University Alliance. XJTU students have achieved outstanding results in international and domestic competitions, with the university ranking among China’s best in terms of award quantity and quality.
In keeping with a global perspective, XJTU initiated the University Alliance of the Silk Road, attracting 207 universities from 45 countries and regions to join diverse cooperation efforts. The university also has established 106 international undergraduate student recruitment bases across 27 countries and regions.
Guided by its strategic priorities, outstanding academic achievements, and global outlook, the university pursues innovative forms of world-class universities while constructing the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour (iHarbour). XJTU continues to focus on groundbreaking research to solve challages and serve as a pioneering beacon of innovation and education in China and around the world.
